Fauquier Health Welcomes New General Surgeon Dr. Nchang Azefor

Fauquier Health announced the welcoming of their newest general surgeon, Nchang Azefor, MD. Dr. Azefor has joined the Fauquier Health Northern Virginia Surgical Specialists team, who also includes Joseph Brown, MD, FACS, Cynthia Dougherty, MD, Benjamin Wampler, MD, FACS, Olga Mazur, MD, and Nathaniel Saint-Preux, MD.
According to Dr. Azefor, “I want my patients to see me as an advocate for their health. My style of practice is to ensure that each patient fully understands their treatment options and what their road to recovery may look like.”
Dr. Azefor is board-certified in General Surgery. She specializes in hernia surgery, minimally invasive surgery (gallbladder, colorectal, appendectomy), mediport insertion, biopsies, lipomas, breast surgery, thyroid surgery, endoscopy (EGD, colonoscopy), and more. Dr. Azefor earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., in 2009. She completed her fellowship training in 2014 from MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Department of Surgical Critical Care. She went on to complete her residency in 2016, also from MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Department of Surgery.
She served as a medical student preceptor at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2018-2021. More recently, in 2023, she served as assistant professor for the department of surgery at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. In that role, a medical student had the opportunity to complete their surgery rotations with her.
Other professional experience includes faculty teaching consultant, gross anatomy at Uniformed Services University of Heath Sciences, graduate teaching assistant basic human anatomy and musculoskeletal anatomy, instructor for Center for Pre-Professional Education at Howard University College of Medicine, and quality control analyst at Charles River Laboratories.
