The Fauquier Health Emergency Department (ED) cares for patients who need emergency care and immediate medical attention. We understand that health issues don't take nights or weekends off — so our care and treatment don't either.
About our Emergency Room
At Fauquier Hospital, our Emergency Room (ER) team is staffed 24/7 with emergency physicians, nurses and other staff who are trained in providing general care services. The
Fauquier Hospital Emergency Department (ED) is a 33-bed unit that includes two state-of-the-art trauma suites and a dedicated room for obstetrical patients. It also includes several negative-pressure rooms for the containment of infectious diseases.
The level of care available ranges from advanced life-support measures to the treatment of minor illnesses, injuries and chronic medical conditions. Individuals with less serious health issues may be moved directly to the Minor Care unit, which allows for quicker treatment and shorter wait times.
What to expect in our ER
As a patient, you will be cared for by staff trained to respond to any type of medical emergency. We understand a visit to the ER can be a very stressful time; therefore, you should expect us to communicate with you and guide you through your situation. You should always ask questions if you do not understand.

Heliport for Life-Saving Transport Services
A heliport, located adjacent to the Emergency Room, allows for rapid helicopter transport of critically ill or injured patients to the nearby major Trauma Center at Fairfax Hospital (Fairfax, VA). Other referral sites within close flight distance include Children’s National Medical Center, Georgetown University Hospital, Washington Hospital Center and George Washington University Hospital, all located in Washington, DC.
Pediatric Care in the Emergency Room
At Fauquier Health, we hold a very special place in our hearts for the children who visit us for care and treatment. We believe all of our pediatric patients are VIPs. That’s why we have created the VIPeds program to address the special needs of children under the age of 18.
Hospitals can be scary, particularly for youngsters. We strive to create a child-friendly environment and to treat our young patients in a special manner to make their stay with us as comfortable and non-stressful as possible. From kid-friendly room décor to teddy bears and our tower of treats, we strive to make our children feel at home during those traumatic times when they really would rather be home.
Recognizing that treating young patients is more involved than just modifying the room décor, staff training is a major component of our VIPeds program. Our pediatric staff receive ongoing training on topics such as medication dosing, pediatric safety devices, pediatric IV placement and care, age-based care, and triaging pediatric patients. Laboratory, Pathology and Medical Imaging
The blood draw, laboratory and pathology departments, as well as Medical Imaging work closely with the Emergency Department staff to provide those services.
When you come to the Emergency Room, bring your insurance information. It is important for you to know whether the Fauquier Hospital Emergency Department is a network provider for your insurance plan. If it is not a network provider, it may increase your out-of-pocket costs. The physicians and services offered in the Emergency Room may bill separately. If you do not have insurance, a self-pay discount is offered. For more details on billing and payments, read The Billing Process: What You Need to Know.
