Warrenton, VA (February 21, 2020) – Fauquier Health hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Thursday, February 20 to celebrate the opening of the hospital’s new Center for Cancer Care. Hospital leaders, physicians, community leaders and government officials attended the ribbon-cutting event to tour the new freestanding 25,640-square-foot center and learn about its new equipment and expanded services. The construction and equipment upgrades were made possible by a nearly $12.5 million capital investment from LifePoint Health, of which Fauquier Health is a part.
The new Center for Cancer Care has allowed Fauquier Health to consolidate most of its cancer care services under one roof, including:
- Infusion center for chemotherapy and immunotherapy;
- Cancer navigation services; and
- Support groups.
On February 10, 2020, Fauquier Health Urology also moved into the Physician Services space within the new building. An additional part of the building will remain a shell to facilitate future growth for Fauquier’s cancer program.
“Fauquier Health is proud to celebrate the opening of our new Center for Cancer Care as we work to enhance the delivery of high-quality cancer care to patients and their families across our region,” said Chad Melton, chief executive officer of Fauquier Health. “This project has been many years in the making, and we are grateful for the contribution of time and resources from our teams at Fauquier and LifePoint Health, as well as the support we have received from the community of Warrenton.”
Accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, Fauquier Health’s cancer program offers a variety of testing and treatment options, as well as providing education for patients. The program is led by hematologist/oncologist Raj Manchandani, MD and Director of Cancer Services Sandy Shipe, RN.
Speakers at the event included Chad Melton; Steve Wojcik, board chairman of Fauquier Health; David Dill, president & CEO of LifePoint Health; Roni Fredrick of Discovery Publications; and Carter Nevill, Mayor of the Town of Warrenton.
"Seeing this project come to fruition has been incredibly rewarding, and we are proud to partner with Fauquier Health to provide high quality cancer care services close to home," said David Dill, president and CEO of LifePoint Health. "Ensuring access to highly specialized care when patients need it most is just one more way we are fulfilling our mission of Making Communities Healthier."
Carter Nevill, Mayor of the Town of Warrenton also shared, "But we are not here to dedicate just a building. We are here to welcome an environment. More than just a structure with state of the art equipment, this is a place that will be brought to life daily by doctors, nurses, interns, administrators, maintenance workers, volunteers, and, above all, patients and their loved-ones. These are the people who will make this building truly a center of hope—the ones who will fight, the ones who will comfort, the ones who will toil tirelessly to make sure the promise of tomorrow belongs to all who walk through these doors."
